  • Supporting your community

Through our Watermark award scheme we can help support your environmental project or local community refill point.

There are two grant schemes available:

    Watermark award

These have supported more than 1,000 groups and projects to improve their local environment and bring people closer to nature.

Schools, parish councils, youth groups and community organisations can apply to for grants of up to £1,500.

And every three months a special project received the £2,500 Wessex Watermark gold award.

Projects supported over the last 25 years include community gardens, allotments and orchards to pond dipping platforms, animal and nature conservation projects and forest school activities.

    Watermark 25 award

To mark the 25th anniversary, we’ve been inspired the call to action made by Sir David Attenborough's in the BBC series Blue Planet II.

We are providing extra funding to address the urgent need to reduce single-use plastics.

Groups can apply for a grant to fund a local refill point in their community to enable people to refill bottles from a tap.

By offering this option we hope to encourage people to refill rather than buy water or other drinks in plastic bottles that are thrown away after a single use.

      How to apply

Our Watermark awards are run in conjunction with the Conservation Foundation, the environmental charity founded by botanist and television presenter David Bellamy who chairs the panel of experts that consider all the applications received.

The awards are also open to research projects identified in local authority biodiversity action plans (BAP) or Wessex Water’s own BAP.
